This Women’s History Month, we celebrate a woman whose vision and dedication laid the foundation for Nourish Meals on Wheels—our founder, Virginia Baker.
In 1968, Virginia saw a growing need in her community. Older adults and homebound neighbors were struggling to access nutritious meals and essential social connections. Inspired to make a difference, she gathered volunteers, cooked meals in a small church kitchen, and personally delivered them to those in need.
From these humble beginnings, Nourish Meals on Wheels was born. What started as a handful of volunteers and a few dozen meals has grown into an organization that now serves over 700 meals daily, ensuring that no older adult in our community goes hungry or feels forgotten.
A Lasting Legacy of Compassion
Virginia’s impact extends far beyond meals. Her dedication fostered a spirit of volunteerism, kindness, and community support that continues to drive our mission today. Thanks to her vision, countless people have received the nourishment and human connection they deserve.
Honoring Virginia’s Mission Today
More than five decades later, we remain committed to her legacy—delivering more than meals, but also friendship, dignity, and care. Every volunteer, every meal, and every smile shared along a delivery route is a reflection of a strong community that takes care of its own.
This Women’s History Month, we honor Virginia Baker and the countless women who continue to shape our organization—from volunteers to staff to supporters like you.
Be Part of Virginia’s Legacy
The need in our community continues to grow, and you can help carry forward Virginia’s mission. Whether you deliver meals, craft tray favors, or donate, your support ensures that her vision of kindness and care lives on.
Because one woman’s vision changed lives—and together, we can keep that legacy alive. 💙✨
