We’ve been preparing 50 years to make this move
For all of Nourish Meals on Wheels’ 50 years of serving the community, we have been blessed to have a subsidized facility in which to operate. With little overhead, the capacity to dedicate resources almost exclusively to programming, is testimony to our inspiring growth and successful outreach in the South-Metro Denver area.
Now, we are embracing a new challenge and yet another relocation. But this time, we’ve made our move to a new, permanent home. Here’s a glimpse at our continuing mission and inspiring story.
To enrich the lives of seniors and homebound adults in the South-Metro Denver area by providing nutritious meals and services that promote dignity, well-being and independence.
Our 50-Year History
1968 – 1971 Virginia C. Baker prepares and delivers the first meals for needy seniors from her family home in the Littleton area.
1971 – 1975 The kitchen and dining room of Littleton’s First Presbyterian Church becomes the home for newly incorporated Town of Littleton Cares, free of charge.
1975 – 2009 The Bradley House is constructed by the Littleton Housing Authority and provides the kitchen and dining room for the burgeoning Town of Littleton Cares Meals on Wheels program for an annual rental of $1.00.
2009 – 2019 Littleton Public Schools repurpose Ames Elementary School and invites the renamed TLC Meals on Wheels to use the heavily subsidized larger kitchen and classroom space for extended programming.
2019 – With the passing of the November 2018 school bond, the Ames Facility is to be used again for students and TLC Meals on Wheels is directed to find a new location of operations.
2020 – TLC Meals on Wheels embraces the opportunity to purchase a permanent home at the former Las Delicias restaurant at South Broadway and Arapahoe Road, allowing the organization to realize the goal of extended services to the South-Metro Denver Area. And, the organization adopts the new name — Nourish Meals on Wheels — working under the operational umbrella of Nourish Senior Services.
