HISTORY

For all of Nourish Meals on Wheels’ 50 years of serving the community, we have been blessed to have a facility in which to operate. With little overhead, the capacity to dedicate resources almost exclusively to programming, is testimony to our inspiring growth and successful outreach in the South-Metro Denver area. Here’s a glimpse at our continuing mission and inspiring story.

Our Mission

To enrich the lives of seniors and homebound adults in the South-Metro Denver area by providing nutritious meals and services that promote dignity, well-being and independence.

Our 50-Year History

1968 – 1971 Virginia C. Baker prepared and delivered the first meals for needy seniors from her family home in the Littleton area.

1971 – 1975 The kitchen and dining room of Littleton’s First Presbyterian Church became the home for newly incorporated Town of Littleton Cares, free of charge.

1975 – 2009 The Bradley House was constructed by the Littleton Housing Authority and provides the kitchen and dining room for the burgeoning Town of Littleton Cares Meals on Wheels program for an annual rental of $1.00.

2009 – 2019 Littleton Public Schools repurposed Ames Elementary School and invited the renamed TLC Meals on Wheels to use the heavily subsidized larger kitchen and classroom space for extended programming.

2019 – With the passing of the November 2018 school bond, the Ames Facility was to be used again for students and TLC Meals on Wheels was directed to find a new location of operations.

2020 – Nourish Meals on Wheels embraced the opportunity to purchase a permanent home at the former Las Delicias restaurant at South Broadway and Arapahoe Road, allowing the organization to realize the goal of extended services to the South-Metro Denver Area. And, the organization adopted the new name, Nourish Meals on Wheels.

2021 – Nourish Meals on Wheels was humbled by the support of the community as they were able to raise $2 Million dollars in less than two years to pay for necessary renovations and the building itself. Once they were settled into the new facility in the summer of 2021 the breakfast program was started, delivering 3,000 breakfasts to clients each month!
